Hope Ball Kickoff Party
The Hope Ball is a project that takes dedication and lots of hard work by our volunteers. We always “Kick off” the Hope Ball in the Fall. With the help of the most generous Kickoff Party hosts we have ever had, Mike and Peggy Shanahan, Cancer League wrote a new chapter in fundraising history this year. We raised about $40,000 to start the Hope Ball season!
Thank you to our Corporate Sponsors for buying tables. We gained new Corporate Sponsors and sold seats to new recruits for our cause during this event.
In addition, CLC was proud to begin our auction at the Kickoff with donations from Carrie Fell, a wonderful painting, and 2 bronzes from Scy Caroselli. Cliff Young’s donated wine brought $1,000 and the Shanahans donated 2 dinners at the restaurant that they will host in a private room, which sold for $15,000 apiece.
Our prized world class artists, AB and Eva Makk, flew in for the event and made the announcement that the painting that they are donating this year would be one of her late husband Americo Makk’s original paintings — a major coup for Cancer League!
Also at the Kickoff, CLC announced our “2016 Champions of Hope”, Martha & Scott Jentz. The Hope Ball 2016 was off to a great start with great people leading the way.
On April 29, 2016, on a very snowy evening, Cancer League of Colorado members and guests attended our Patron Party for the Hope Ball 2016. In spite of the weather, 200 people came to the Colorado Golf Club and the home of Barb and Gary Reece for the evening. Guests were shuttled to the home by RPM Valet. Footer’s Catering provided wonderful food and hot drinks for the ride back to the Clubhouse with a beautiful Spring snowfall. Lorraine Salazar and Louise Richardson were the perfect Chairs for the event.
CLC was proud to auction off a trip to Dancing with the Stars for the week following the Hope Ball. We received some money from the sales of the paintings sold by the Makks during their stay in Denver; we sold 2 donated spa packages for the lucky couples from the Woodhouse Day Spa, and we also sold the donated John Atencio necklace. Our number for the evening was approximately $30,000.
We were well on our way to a successful Hope Ball 2016. Our members and guests are truly “Dedicated to the Ones We Love”.
The Main Event
The evening of the Hope Ball, May 7th, began with cocktails and silent auction. CLC made around $88,000 that evening just from our silent and art auction. As in the past, Colorado cuisine and President’s Gallery were the highest return.
The ballroom doors opened at 7:00 and guests were seated with Moments Notice and Jerry Barnet playing our theme song, “Dedicated to the Ones We Love,” an idea that came to CLC from Martha Jentz. Martha’s very talented sister Melissa Eddy Quilty shared her voice for the honor of Martha and Scott, our “Champions of Hope” for this event. The tone for the evening was set!
Martha is also the permanent chair for the car raffle. Doug Moreland’s Family and their Family Dealerships donate a vehicle to our auction for the raffle each year! Thank you!
The raffle winner this year was a guest at the Hope Ball.
Murphy Huston was our emcee for the evening and Gary Corbett was our incredible auctioneer once again. These two men donate their services for CLC each year and without them, we could not raise the money we need to find a cure for cancer.
Our live auction and President’s Gallery were chaired by Edie Marks and Kori White. These two women get amazing items each year. Our live auction and special appeal portion of the event raised about $190,000. This is amazing!
The evening was completed with guests dancing to Moments Notice. They were fabulous. CLC guests had a delicious dinner and wonderful evening. If you haven’t seen photos from this special evening yet, they are available on our website!
Thank you especially to our Hope Ball Sponsors. Your contributions and support covered our expenses before we entered the hotel that evening. Your sponsorships are what enable Cancer League to continue to fund grants for finding a cure for cancer. This is our mission. Click here to read about and Thank Our Sponsors!
The Hope Ball, “Dedicated to the Ones We Love,” was a wonderful evening and a highly successful fundraiser for Cancer League of Colorado. We netted around $610,000 that evening, enabling our Funds Allocation Committee to recommend making many important grants for the year:
Service Grants: $178,500
Research Grants: $720,000
Investigator-Initiated Clinical Trials: $150,000
Thank you for being “Dedicated to the Ones We Love.” Your generosity allows CLC the ability to give grants that are making a difference in the lives of the ones we love.
See you all at the Hope Ball Kickoff, Patron Party and the Hope Ball 2017,
Barb Reece, VP Fundraising
